MEDDICC / MEDDPICC account research

Account research before MEDDICC or MEDDPICC discovery

Before MEDDICC or MEDDPICC discovery, external research can prepare business context, relevant roles, hypotheses and measures worth exploring. Confirmed Pain, Economic Buyer, Champion, Decision Process and agreed Metrics require client evidence.

Before discovery

Research boundary

Public research can establish parts of the current business situation, including operating model, stated priorities, organisational roles, technology context, visible constraints and material changes where relevant.

Those facts can support explicit hypotheses, but they do not become confirmed qualification data until validated with the client.

After the call, qualification and CRM should be updated with client-confirmed Pain, impact, stakeholders, decision process and next step. Desk-research assumptions should remain separate from buyer-confirmed facts.

Metrics

Metrics: research contribution

RESEARCH CAN PREPARE

The current business situation may make conversion, margin, capacity, cycle time or another measure important. A recent change can sharpen that need, but it is not required.

GO INTO THE CALL ASKING

“If this issue is real, which number would show its effect today?”

ONLY THE CLIENT CAN ESTABLISH

The baseline, target, agreed Metric and economic value.

Economic Buyer

Economic Buyer: research contribution

RESEARCH CAN PREPARE

Organisation research can identify roles that appear to own the affected decision, budget or operating result.

GO INTO THE CALL ASKING

“Who ultimately decides whether this problem is worth funding, and what do they need to see?”

ONLY THE CLIENT CAN ESTABLISH

Who has final economic authority in this opportunity.

Decision Criteria

Decision Criteria: research contribution

RESEARCH CAN PREPARE

Visible strategy, technology, regulation, operating model and previous investments may indicate what could matter.

GO INTO THE CALL ASKING

“What has to be true for an option to be acceptable here - technically, commercially and operationally?”

ONLY THE CLIENT CAN ESTABLISH

The buying group’s actual Decision Criteria and their relative weight.

Decision Process

Decision Process: research contribution

RESEARCH CAN PREPARE

Public information may show governance, procurement structures or roles likely to be involved.

GO INTO THE CALL ASKING

“Once you decide this is worth solving, what has to happen internally before anything can be approved?”

ONLY THE CLIENT CAN ESTABLISH

The live sequence of approvals, stakeholders, gates and timing.

Pain

Pain: research contribution

RESEARCH CAN PREPARE

The stakeholder may need to make a decision that the current process, information or system does not support well. Sometimes that mismatch follows a recent change; sometimes it is an existing condition. Either way, it remains a hypothesis worth testing.

GO INTO THE CALL ASKING

“How are you handling this today, and where does the current approach start to get in the way?”

ONLY THE CLIENT CAN ESTABLISH

Whether the client experiences material Pain, its implication and priority.

Champion

Champion: research contribution

RESEARCH CAN PREPARE

A public profile can show role, tenure, responsibility and likely proximity to the affected decision.

GO INTO THE CALL ASKING

“Who is most invested in changing this internally, and who can help us understand how the organisation will respond?”

ONLY THE CLIENT CAN ESTABLISH

Influence, access, personal investment and willingness to sell internally.

Competition and Paper Process

Competition and Paper Process: research contribution

RESEARCH CAN PREPARE

Technology partners, installed platforms, incumbent suppliers or formal procurement rules may sometimes be public.

GO INTO THE CALL ASKING

“What alternatives are you considering, including doing nothing or extending what you already have, and what formal steps would a purchase have to pass?”

ONLY THE CLIENT CAN ESTABLISH

The competitive dynamics and Paper Process of the live opportunity.
